What is a banana?

For people who have been living under a rock for most of their lives, a banana is a yellow fruit that is long and thin, as well as having a curved shape. The banana is covered in a yellow peel, which must be peeled back to eat the soft white insides of a ripe fruit. When a banana is not ripe, its peel takes on a green colour, which gradually changes to full yellow as the fruit progresses in its ripening stages. When the banana starts to overripe past its prime, brown spots will begin to emerge, until the banana is turned brown and soft. While many variations of bananas exist, the basic idea is the same around the world.

Crazy facts that are absolute BANANAS

-The bananas you eat today are all genetically modified in some way. Real original bananas were much smaller, had plenty of seeds inside, were not yellow, and could only be eaten after cooking them. However, after hundreds of years, the original bananas eventually went extinct, and all we are left with today are sweet yellow evolutionary mutations of the original fruit.

-Bananas are classified as berries, making them more of a berry than strawberries are.

-Bananas are slightly radioactive due to the high amounts of potassium present. However, there is not enough radioactivity to harm humans.

-While many people peel a banana from the top stem to the bottom, monkeys prefer peeling the banana peel from the bottom. This may be due to being slightly easier to peel, as well as leaving no sticky string that many people are annoyed by.
